It Ogun State Agriculture Commissioner, Dr. Adeola Odedina, has stressed the need for sustainable agricultural investments to meet the growing food demand for Nigeria’s growing population through mitigating the consequences of climate change.

Odedina stated this at a one-day workshop on the effects of climate change on cassava production and processing value chains with the theme, “Effects of Climate Change on Cassava Production & Processing”, held at the Providence Events Center, Abeokuta, the state capital.

To ensure food security, the commissioner said “we need to understand climate change around us and how they affect agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods,”. He noted that climate change and global warming are among the problems facing many countries Inside the world.

In his contribution, Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ), representative and component head, Local Economic Development and Value Chain for GIZ-SEDIN, Ms. Sina Uti-Wasiri, said that the aim of GIZ’s intervention is to support implementation partners in improving the employment and income situation of MSMEs. He noted that the program works closely with partners at federal, state and local government levels, noting that the Ogun State GIZ supports cassava processing and the ICT/E Commerce Value Chain in its value chain components.

He said other areas of intervention include access to financial services, building financial competence, a conducive business environment, supporting business development and promoting entrepreneurship.
