“By assessing our risks and opportunities stemming from potential climate change, we are taking action to support the long-term financial resilience of our business and our sustainable ability to provide sustainable building solutions to our customers,” said LP’s Director of Sustainability and Public Policy. Donna Kopecky. “Our TCFD assessment helped LP identify strategic opportunities that would allow us to provide low-carbon and efficiency-enhancing products to the large North American and international building market.”
The TCFD framework was developed using broad stakeholder input from experts in forest management, manufacturing operations, procurement, logistics, product research and development, legal, finance, investor relations, and the LP senior management team, whose members serve within the company, social, and governance (ESG) councils and the ESG Task Force. The ESG Task Force is responsible for developing and implementing an ESG strategy, which includes the long-term management of risks and opportunities associated with climate change.
LP uses an enterprise risk management framework to contextualize the likelihood and potential impact of various risks on its business in the short, medium and long term. Scenario analysis looks at how regulatory, market, technology, reputation, and physical risks may impact LP’s operations and value chain under severe climate situations.
LP currently tracks greenhouse gas emissions and energy consumption across its operations and value chain. In addition, the LP’s Sustainable Forestry Initiative certification program is critical to advancing climate-friendly practices. More details on the LP’s climate strategy will be released in the upcoming 2022 Sustainability Report.
