Colin Rooney’s attorney called Rebecca Vardy today (Thursday) a “completely unreliable witness” on the final day of a multi-million pound libel trial in the Supreme Court.

David Sherburne, who represents Rooney, went on to say that her evidence was “unthoughtful and lacking in candor”.

Real Madrid announces a €360m deal at the Bernabéu

Real Madrid announced a €360 million agreement with Sixth Street, an investment company, and Legends, an expertise company.

Through the partnership, Madrid says Sixth Street has acquired “the right to co-operate some new business at the Santiago Bernabeu for twenty years”.

In the meantime, the legends will contribute their “experience and knowledge to the operation of large stadiums and entertainment centres, allowing for better management” of the Bernabéu.

Olivier Giroud has been left out of the France squad for the upcoming Nations League matches after Karim Benzema’s return.

Benzema was absent from Didier Deschamps’ last squad due to injury, and in his absence Giroud scored two goals in two friendlies against Ivory Coast and South Africa. These efforts helped the AC Milan striker to advance three goals from Thierry Henry’s record of 51 goals in France.

FIFA appoints three women referees for the World Cup for the first time in the competition’s history

FIFA appointed three women’s referees and three women’s assistant referees ahead of the 2022 World Cup for the first time in the tournament’s history.

36 referees, 69 assistant referees and 24 video match referees have been appointed for the tournament. English referees Anthony Taylor and Michael Oliver were among the referees selected. However, no VAR officials were selected for the tournament.

The appointment of six match officials for the FIFA World Cup™ is a defining moment in the sport, as for the first time female referees will have the opportunity to take charge of men’s World Cup Final matches in the tournament’s 92-year history.

The chosen judges are Stephanie Frappart of France, Salima Mukansanga of Rwanda and Yoshimi Yamashita of Japan. Furthermore, the assistant referees are Neuza Back from Brazil, Karen Diaz Medina from Mexico and Kathryn Nesbitt from the USA.

Man jailed for injury to Billy Sharpe at the end of Nottingham Forest’s play-off with Sheffield United

A man has been found guilty of assault causing actual bodily harm after he injured Billy Sharp at the end of a playoff match in Nottingham Forest against Sheffield United on Tuesday.

Robert Bigs, 30, pleaded guilty to assault and actual bodily harm in Nottingham District Court on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, Nottinghamshire police said Bigs, from Derbyshire, was charged with assault with actual bodily harm and going into the playing area at a football match.

Football fans convicted of using cocaine at matches could face a five-year ban

Football fans who have been convicted of selling or using first-class drugs, such as cocaine, may face a five-year ban on stadiums under new rules announced by the government on Thursday.

Police Minister Kate Malthouse has also revealed that convicted fans may be forced to surrender their passports if their team plays abroad.

Crowd violence at the Euro 2020 final at Wembley last summer was blamed on the prevalence of drug abuse.
