Le Havre. A former sailing teacher, he opens a bike shop

From sailing to cycling, there is only one step… Taken by Pierre Viard, former sailing coach at the Paul Vateen Maritime Center and at Le Havre Regatta Association (Seine Maritime)and a passion for the sea, who will open a bicycle shop in Ocean City under the Cyclable brand on Saturday, May 14, 2022.

“Bike Test”

At 58 rue Rene Coty, work began a month ago on this 180 square meter building, which has been vacant since the closing of the Pimkie store. Perfect location for this 36 year old guy from Le Havre, who was looking forward to a stay in the city centre. “I wanted a safe place to put people in a situation and have them try the bikes,” she explains convinced the little queen in town since 2018, in front of the facade that will be repainted in the coming days.

He was then the father of two children—the couple now have three—that year he and his wife got their first cargo bike. “I worked at Régates, we live in Saint-Vincent and we had to go to Rue Gabriel-Péri for nurseries. So we looked for a cargo bike to take the kids.”

Very quickly, the idea found its way into Pierre Viard’s mind. “We had a great connection with the store manager of Rouen. He told us that the brand is looking to establish itself in Le Havre.”

We are in the summer of 2020, Pierre Viard has become Naval Director at the Société des Régates du Havre. The young man approaches the Chamber of Commerce and Industry in the region Normandy Parallel Cyclable for Training. And in April 2021, he signed a franchise contract with the brand, which was created in 2005 and is present in 60 cities in France. After searching for partners, the competitor becomes an entrepreneur.

From balance bike to cargo bike

Oriented towards families rather than sports, the brand offers cargo bikes, electric city bikes, folding bikes, and balance bikes for toddlers… “rather sophisticated” bikes, outlines Pierre Viard, who is flanked by Nathan, employee bicycle mechanic. By profession and a former member of La Roue libre.

Nathan arrived in Le Havre about ten years ago, and he agrees with the “Cyclable philosophy”. This work is “unexpected” for him. “I am a sure sport cyclist but I also enjoy the city bike. I love traveling by bike, which allows me to experience something unique,” ​​he says.
