An event that promises to be spectacular and pedestrians will be able to follow from the beach.

Participants will compete at a distance of about fifteen kilometers at sea, with the sole power of their oar. For them, too, it is about managing their efforts well, which should last at least an hour, while making good use of the marine elements: winds, waves and currents. The best performance for these races is at an average of 15 km / h.

Starting in the water and upon arrival, participants must carry their boat to a bow fixed on the shore. On the other hand, during the race it is more difficult to follow the kayaks who will quickly move away from the edge of the shore, sometimes up to two kilometers from the coast.

Where do you watch the race?

In ocean races, races generally take place with the wind on the backs of the rowers. The organizers can also change their course according to the weather conditions.

On Wednesday, May 18th, due to the weather forecast, Glace Mers was considering starting the race on the beach at Mers-les-Bains for Saturday’s race. Competitors will first head towards a compensation buoy 500m from Mers, before heading towards another buoy off Misnil Fall. They will then head to Onival, a route of about 14 km. The first runners are expected around 11:30 a.m. on Onival Beach in Olt.

To watch the event, spectators are interested in coming to the beginning or end. They will also be able to position themselves on top of the cliff of Treport or Mers-les-Bains, by bringing binoculars: participants sometimes go several kilometers from the edge.

Alone or in a team

Ocean Races can be played alone or in a team. This weekend, both types of races will be offered, on Saturday for individual competitors, surfing, long and very narrow boats, and on Sunday, several teams are signed up to race in 6-seater boats.
