How do you eat on a polar expedition? The two Belgian adventurers, the creators of Nanook’s Journey, explain to us

The two adventurers arrived safely on the east coast of Greenland, after long weeks of intense effort. The main thing that allowed to realize this first stage of the atypical triathlon: nutrition. For such a challenge, careful nutritional preparation is essential. To do this, they surrounded themselves with the Belgian company Lepivits.

It’s time for paddling soon

For the sea kayaking part, adventurers plan smaller portions as the kayaks don’t allow them to carry large amounts. So they know the calories they get from their rations will be a little less than what they expend immediately, but they hope to supplement that with hunting and fishing. Thus small rations but in sufficient quantities provide long-term security even if the two Belgians risk losing a little weight.

So, for sea kayaking, we start with menus at 3000 calories per day per person, which allows us to last for 45, 60 days, and we will have to supplement it with fishing at once. » Nathan Govart explains.

Basic framework: Lepivits

LEPIVITS is above all else a Belgian family adventure, born in Brussels over 10 years ago. I took over this family business formerly called “Leppin” to create an innovative project about health that was close to my heart. Since 2019, I’ve opened a lab in Wavre by surrounding myself with a young and dynamic team passionate about nutrition. My brother could not escape from it and quickly decided to join this great adventure. Today, LEPIVITS specializes in the production of clean nutritional supplements consisting, among other things, of vitamins, minerals, amino acids and enzymes in order to supplement the athlete’s nutritional intake and to improve the well-being of all. Explains Neil Govart, CEO of Lepivits.

LEPIVITS has set itself a double goal. First of all, we want to make the general public aware of the functional and preventive approach to nutrition by writing health articles. Our health blog explains the importance of a balanced diet and nutritional supplement for physical and mental health on a daily basis. Additionally, we innovate in researching and formulating natural nutritional supplements at the forefront of nutrients by avoiding the addition of synthetic excipients. Today, many health professionals trust us and incorporate our natural solutions into a global healthcare approach focused on prevention and patient nutritional control. Develops by Neil Govart.

“So let’s see a little concretely what they’re going to take on the spot. So they’re going to get magnesium and vitamin B supplements, so for energy intake. They’re going to have maxivs, so take vitamins and minerals, especially vitamin D, zinc, vitamin E, good antioxidants to avoid causing In a lot of infections. This is another vitamin D supplement for good muscle mass production. And here is Co-Q10, which is perhaps less well known, but will enhance energy performance, thus ensuring our mitochondria work better. Neil Govart concludes.

Expedition Nanook?

For those who have not yet heard of this atypical project, the Nanok Expedition is a sporting feat achieved in Greenland. An atypical and unique triathlon that successively combines a cross

600 km on sledges along the Arctic Circle

1000 km in sea kayak

1 km of vertical climbing to open the “big wall” route in the adventure zone.

The Great Wall Fragment: After 3-4 months of effort, they will finish their expedition by opening a “Great Wall” in the Farewell Cape Fjords. In fact, many large walls with a height of 1,000 meters and more dot this area, many of which have not been climbed before. So they aim to open their own path in “Big Wall” style and end their expedition in height and beauty!
