HONOR Announce New Sustainability Progress, Launch Monthly Challenge ‘Earth View in the Mirror’ New Magical Moment

Raising further awareness around environment and sustainability, the new HONOR Magic Moments Monthly Challenge with the theme “View of the Earth in Mirror” starts today on Instagram, Facebook and the HONOR Global Club. This challenge aims to encourage participants to appreciate and capture beautiful landscapes around the world. At the same time, the official HONOR website has been updated with a new environmental page.

“At HONOR, we are committed to minimizing the environmental impact of our products,” said George ZhaoCEO of HONOR Device Co., Ltd. “With sustainability and circular economy as part of our product design philosophy, we seek to improve the environmental friendliness of our products by evaluating their carbon footprint throughout their full life cycle, while reducing resource and energy consumption.”

Improving Packaging with Environmental Awareness in Mind

In order to minimize resource consumption, HONOR uses packaging materials that are light, compact, harmless, easy to recycle and environmentally friendly. The company also helps protect the environment by replacing petroleum-based inks and plastics with packaging materials that are renewable and biodegradable.

Switching from petroleum-based inks to soy inks, HONOR has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by about 80 tonnes since 2014. For the HONOR Magic Series, the phone tray is made of bagasse instead of plastic, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 32 tonnes per million units. HONOR has also replaced plastic with paper for the protective coating of chargers and data cables, further reducing carbon dioxide emissions by 35 tonnes per 10 million units. In addition, the Forest Stewardship Council-certified packaging box is used to contain products including the HONOR Magic Series smartphone and the HONOR Watch GS3, which help to conserve approximately 122 hectares of forest area per year.

Since 2021, HONOR has been working on designing simpler and more robust packaging solutions for laptops. Today, HONOR laptops are all packaged in boxes made of folded pieces of corrugated cardboard. The medium boxes normally used in shipping have also been removed, contributing to a total reduction of 208 tonnes of carbon dioxide emissions. For laptops and wearables, HONOR has saved approximately 74 tons of paper, equivalent to a reduction in carbon dioxide emissions of 77 tons, by optimizing the packaging structure and consolidating the management of printed materials.

Meets Strict Environmental Standards with Industry Recognized Certification

In addition to meeting international requirements, HONOR maintains a more stringent set of internal environmental standards to play an active role in removing potentially harmful substances from smartphones, tablets and other products.

After testing dozens of material formulas in partnership with several suppliers, HONOR has decided to use halogen-free power cords for all of its smartphones and tablets, a change that has resulted in a reduction of hazardous substances in the brand’s products by approximately 3,379 tonnes since launch. effective 2016. To date, 76 HONOR smartphones and tablets have received the Grade A Environmental Label from the China Quality Certification Center (CQC).

Exploring Clean Energy for Greener Operations

With a strong emphasis on environmental protection during its production and operations, HONOR aims to reduce its ecological footprint through energy conservation and emission reductions. While exploring the use of clean energy to reduce carbon dioxide emissions in its industrial estates, HONOR optimizes facility management to cut energy consumption in day-to-day operations by keeping energy records and monitoring and analyzing relevant data.

HONOR encourages its staff to embrace remote work by leveraging telecommunications tools such as audio and video calls to reduce the need for business travel. This change is estimated to reduce carbon emissions by 26,761 tonnes in a year, according to a research report co-authored by the Center for Environmental Education and Communication of the Ministry of Environmental Protection.[1]. Within the HONOR Intelligent Manufacturing Industrial Park, HONOR operates 146 shuttle routes, providing employees with a more environmentally friendly option for commuting to work and effectively reducing carbon emissions by 1,317 tonnes.[2].

Adopting sustainability practices with industrial partners, HONOR will continue to focus its environmental, social and governance efforts on green initiatives. While achieving sustainable enterprise development, HONOR strives to build a new intelligent world for everyone with innovation and technology.
